Our Story

Founded in 1928 by descendants of Bridgewater's earliest settlers, the Bridgewater Historical Society was established to preserve the town's rich heritage and share its stories with future generations. From its earliest days, the Society has collected photographs, artifacts, documents, and family histories that tell the story of Bridgewater and the people who shaped it.

The Society's first archives were housed in the basement of the Burnham Library before finding a new home in what is now known as the Captain's House. In the late 1960's, the Society was able to expand yet again when the Town of Bridgewater purchased the 1820 Elijah Peck House and gave the Society use of the house for its more extensive collection.
